Which one video game has been in existence for over 20 years and is more popular than anytime previous? That would be Madden NFL. Starting out on the Apple II system it is now accessible (in many editions) on almost all conceivable gaming console made in the past twenty years. EA Sports has consistently added exciting brand new features in every release to retain its fans wide and growing.

John Madden is the founding personality to lend his name to the game. He drove much of the original innovations to the videogame for greater authenticity. He did not want to be tied with anything that was not authentic. But Madden’s true appeal was his charisma that could be transferred to the gaming experience. He is known as a proponent for retro tough guy style football. This is exemplified in his televised broadcast manner, was represented in his time as a NFL coach, and mirrored in his yearly tough-man list- the All-Madden Team.

In Madden NFL John Madden’s voice has analysis of plays for the game being played out. Historically his real-life broadcast partners have joined him on the video game as well, like Pat Summeralls and Al Michaels. The game does not neglect his distinctive style of commentary. As an example his use of the word boom is a favorite both in the game and on television broadcasts.

John Madden’s celebrity gave the game its start. It was not just that he was a name associated with football but it was also his hard hitting attitude. EA Sports has done such a good job delivering John Madden’s attitude into the video game that it has become its own brand. It is so powerful that Madden NFL sales grows and each version is highly anticipated. It has even survived John Madden’s retirement from television.

When you have professional athletes talking about their rankings in a videogame, you know that videogame is important. Madden NFL has moved beyond being popular or successful, it has become a cultural mainstay. As part of the Super Bowl hype the game has been in recent years used to indicate who will win the Super Bowl. It has also come to have its own Madden Bowl to decide the best player of the video game. One of the pop culture features involving the game involves the cover’s athlete. The professional players who are on the cover have often had a weak subsequent year following that appearance.

Today, Madden NFL is available for all major video game machines. It is possibly available in various releases and versions for every videogame machine that has come out in the past decade. That is an amazing feat for a twenty year old game that began on the Apple II. The details available in the videogame are really amazing. Couple that with the chance to play against someone on the Internet, that just increases the challenge of the video game. The videogame company’s dedication to consistently improving the videogame will keep it on the cutting edge into the future.
